Picking Patterns - Lesson nine
This is the final pattern in this first series. Again this is an 8th note 4/4 pattern.
Ok, similar to pattern eight. This one has bits of pattern one within it. So let’s talk it through.
The thumb (p) plays the bass note of the chord, followed by an immediate jump up to the first string which is played by the third finger (a), then back to the third string played by the first finger (i), then down to the second string played by the second finger (m). Next it’s back down again to the third string and then using the standard fingering play up from the third string to the first and finally the third string again. Once again the plectrum version. The first four notes (remember once again, two beats only here) are alternate picking with a down, up, down, up motion. Followed by two down picks and finally two up picks. Don’t forget the rationale behind the final two up picks, to get you ready for the first down pick of the next bar
